Investing.com – Japan stocks were higher after the close on Monday, as gains in the Transport, Mining and Chemical, Petroleum&Plastic sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Tokyo, the Nikkei 225 gained 1.33% to hit a new 1-month high.

The best performers of the session on the Nikkei 225 were Rakuten Inc (TYO:4755), which rose 3.48% or 22.00 points to trade at 655.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Resonac Holdings Corp (TYO:4004) added 3.24% or 68.00 points to end at 2,164.00 and Konica Minolta, Inc. (TYO:4902) was up 3.14% or 16.00 points to 525.00 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TYO:9501), which fell 1.55% or 7.00 points to trade at 445.00 at the close. Eisai Co., Ltd. (TYO:4523) declined 1.39% or 117.00 points to end at 8,277.00 and Takashimaya Co., Ltd. (TYO:8233) was down 1.23% or 22.00 points to 1,762.00.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Tokyo Stock Exchange by 2906 to 689 and 240 ended unchanged.

The Nikkei Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Nikkei 225 options, was down 3.02% to 17.37 a new 1-month low.

Crude oil for March delivery was up 0.06% or 0.05 to $81.69 a barrel. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Brent oil for delivery in March rose 0.02% or 0.02 to hit $87.65 a barrel, while the February Gold Futures contract fell 0.32% or 6.10 to trade at $1,922.10 a troy ounce.

USD/JPY was up 0.48% to 130.20, while EUR/JPY rose 0.89% to 141.90.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.23% at 101.55.
